The Golden Generation
The finals are played at Art Safari!
May 23 – June 16
Thirty years ago, at the ’94 World Cup in the United States, Romania’s national team wrote the most beautiful page in the history of Romanian football, playing a quarter-final against Sweden, after beating and eliminating Argentina from the championship.
Now, the players of that great generation are preparing for their farewell party in front of their fans. On May 25th, at the National Arena, which will be completely full, the golden “tricoloures” will appear for the last time in this formation, playing against a team of former foreign stars, coached by José Mourinho.
To mark this moment, Art Safari is organising a temporary exhibition that tells the story of the Romanians who made football a form of art. You will see on display equipment worn by the Golden Generation, old articles and magazines from private collections (so, now on display for the first time), items from the Sports Museum collection and original iconic photographs from the Agerpres collection.
Don’t miss the occasion to see the official T-shirt of the national team with Gheorghe Hagi’s holographic signature, brought to you from a private collection. The great football player is also present in The History of Romania in 100 Portraits exhibition (which can be seen at Art Safari until July 28), through a photograph from the Agerpres archive and the T-shirt that was worn by Romania’s “Ten” at the 1996 European Football Championship, from the Blogu’ lu’ Otravă collection.
Gică Popescu, Ilie Dumitrescu, Marius Lăcătuș, Florin Prunea, Ionuț Lupescu, Dorinel Munteanu, Dan Petrescu and other members of the national team that made history in the USA are also represented in the exhibition.
Go, Romania! Go to Art Safari!
